All The Ways I Was Me Recently

Haven’t been on any adventures lately. So, I haven’t had much to write about.

But here are all the ways I’ve been exactly me over the last few months.

I’m sure none of it will be surprising. But maybe it will be a little entertaining. Or validating.

Went to the gym. Got in a really solid workout. (Because J-Vicious listens to his clients.) (He asked that I point that out.) Them came home. Showered. Had some dinner. Sat down to relax…

And got a side stitch.

While sitting on my deck.

In a chair.

Reading.

(I’m 49 now.)

(And also I’m apparently unfairly harsh on J-Vicious. Or whatever.)

Hosted a company social event. Because our actual social person was out of town. So, obviously I’m the back up. For social.

Spent the day leading up to the event looking at people’s pictures. And creating ways to remember their names.

Because one year into my new job. I know the names of exactly six people.

I practiced hard. All. Day.

“Dude that looks like Noah Wiley.”

“Chick that I always think is Janice, but isn’t.”

“Chick that I always forget is actually Janice.”

Then when they showed up to the event…well, obviously I forgot the step of associating them with their actual names…

“Hey, Noah! I mean…I’m sorry…I don’t think we’ve met…what was your name…?”

“Hi Janice! I mean, not Janice…”

“Wait. It that Janice…?”

We all know I shouldn’t be the one in charge of social. Right?

Took down an entire system at work. Like, the whole system. A very important system. And brought a whole nother department to a grinding halt. Like, full on we’ve got to get shit done now panciked type of grinding halt. For an entire day. And entire Friday.

And didn’t get fired.

(Then fixed it. To which people responded by giving me kudos. For fixing the problem. That I created. So this feels like something that should be explored…)

Listened to an audiobook. About a group of people who needed to bond with dragons to go into battle. And spent the first several chapters thinking the narrator was saying the word “Writers.” And thought it was really cool that dragons would want to bond with writers. You know, so someone could write about their dragon adventures.

I was about a third of the way through the book before I realized…

Riders.

She was saying “Riders.” Not “Writers.”

The book got a little less exciting after that.

English is hard.

Got mad at someone. For not wishing me a happy birthday…

I never told him it was my birthday…

In my defense, I’m a Leo.

So…he really should’ve known.

Everyone should know.

There’s probably more. But this feels like enough. To remind y’all. That I’m still…me…

I’m just me without mountains. For now.

But I’m working on that.
